About This Project

This major addition / whole house renovation project was the result of the home owners’ vision to transform their one story ranch in Chastain Park into a two story stunning Spanish Colonial Hacienda.

Both husband and wife lived many years in South and Central America and had fallen in love with Hacienda style homes that were infused with Spanish and Latin American influences, rustic touches, colorful hand painted tiles, sprawling floor plans, and covered terraces. They wanted to emulate this design style with the simplicity of the Spanish colonial and Latin American pasts with an emphasis on traditional architectural and handcrafted elements. Spanish Colonial antiques and Central American country objects are intermingled with contemporary notions of art and comfort, creating a balance between old and new.

This project is distinguishable by the prominent use of two primary building materials- stone and exterior plaster. This style projects casual and rustic informality characterized by the use of traditional clay tile roofs, timbers and exposed beams. Featured throughout the home are the rugged, romantic beauty of the arcaded silhouettes, rich colors, and natural materials.
